Demolition Kitchen

What started like this:

Soon became this:

If you check out our House Tour you can see that the entire house was wood paneling. Too much wood paneling ev-er-y-where! There was plenty of work to be done on the house so we hired a contractor to renovate our entire first floor. (I'll get into that more later on.) We tried to save whereever we could so Tony decided it would be best if we did the demolition ourselves. Thank goodness for Tony! That man got busy! He did all that tearing down by HIMSELF and saved us tons!

Can you tell how excited he was?

It definitely wasn't easy and I tried to help out as much as I could. If you see that weird space to the left right above the cabinets, I removed a bunch of tile from that "cubby" area and then on the wall to the left of the door. All the appliances were old and pretty badly taken care of. Fortunately for us we didn't have to haul them anywhere to get rid of it. We had our landscapers take them for scrap metal which they end up selling. We could have done that ourselves to make some money back, but having someone else get that off our hands seemed to be worth it already.

As soon as we got most of the kitchen cleared out and cleaned up, our contractor took over. We hired someone that my parents had used about 10 years earlier when they had their home remodeled - D & D Home Designs. I tried to see if they had a website, but couldn't find anything. I know. It's pretty crazy that I never asked, but if you are interested I'm happy to share their contact information.

On top of putting up new walls and ceiling we replaced the lights with high hats. The fluorescent  lighting from before was no bueno. We asked for four lights to be put in and you can see the set up in the pictures below.

Also, the kitchen was also closed in from the living room so we cut that wall down along the staircase. It made the kitchen feel so much bigger once that was open.

Next up?! Walls!
